Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl
★★★
I wouldn't call myself the biggest Wallace & Gromit fan in the world, but growing up in East Texas, my sister and I always loved their offbeat humor and very British sensibility. We discovered the original films on VHS from the library (yes, VHS!) and even though none of the movies are silent, Gromit's expressive looks always gave them this classic, old-school comedy feel. And honestly, even if you haven’t seen every project from the creators, you have to respect the incredible craft of the claymation. It's astounding how much work goes into making these movies feel so alive.
As for Vengeance Most Fowl? I thought it was cute and funny, but it didn’t hit quite like the earlier installments. Some jokes landed, some jokes definitely didn’t — and while the old charm is still there, this one didn’t feel as consistently funny as the originals I grew up with.
That said, there’s not a whole lot to overthink here. If you’ve seen a Wallace & Gromit movie before, you know what you’re getting — and that's exactly what you get here. It sticks to the formula: charming, lighthearted and entertaining, but not exactly deep. I threw it on for my youngest, and while she liked it well enough, it didn’t inspire her to go dig into the older movies the way I had hoped.
Bottom line? Vengeance Most Fowl isn’t the best Wallace & Gromit adventure ever, but you could definitely do worse if you’re just looking for something fun to throw on with the kids. Plus, there’s just something special about watching a lovingly hand-crafted claymation film in a world full of digital everything — you can truly feel the extra work and heart that goes into it.
